Panch Kedar Yatra Guide & Tour Packages
Embark on the sacred Panch Kedar Yatra — a journey to the five ancient Shiva temples of the Garhwal Himalayas. According to mythology, Lord Shiva manifested himself in five different forms across Uttarakhand after disappearing into the earth as a bull. Each temple represents a part of his divine body — the hump at Kedarnath, arms at Tungnath, face at Rudranath, navel at Madhyamaheshwar, and hair at Kalpeshwar. Experience this extraordinary blend of devotion, adventure, and Himalayan beauty with NVacations Club.
India’s Sacred Shiva Trail in the Garhwal Himalayas
The Panch Kedar refers to five ancient temples of Lord Shiva scattered across the Garhwal Himalayas in Uttarakhand. According to Hindu mythology, after the Kurukshetra war, the Pandavas sought Lord Shiva’s blessings to atone for their sins. Shiva, disheartened by the bloodshed, took the form of a bull and hid in the Garhwal region. When Bhima caught hold of the bull, it disappeared into the earth, and parts of Shiva’s body reappeared at five different locations — each becoming a sacred shrine.
The Panch Kedar Yatra is more than just a pilgrimage — it’s a journey of devotion, self-discovery, and Himalayan adventure. Devotees visit these holy shrines to seek divine blessings, spiritual fulfillment, and inner peace. The full circuit involves approximately 107 km of trekking plus road transfers, taking about 10-12 days to complete. Perfect for spiritually inclined travelers who are physically fit and prepared for high-altitude Himalayan conditions.
The 5 Sacred Kedar Temples
Explore the five radiant manifestations of Lord Shiva, each representing a different part of his divine form.
Kedarnath – Hump of Shiva
At 3,583 m, Kedarnath is the most prominent Panch Kedar temple and part of the Char Dham Yatra. It houses a conical Shiva Lingam representing the hump of the bull. Reachable via a 16 km trek from Gaurikund.
Tungnath – Arms of Shiva
At 3,680 m, Tungnath is the highest Shiva temple in the world. Believed to be where Shiva’s arms appeared. Accessible via a 3.5 km trek from Chopta — the shortest and easiest Panch Kedar leg.
Rudranath – Face of Shiva
At ~3,559 m, Rudranath is where Shiva’s face appeared. A natural rock temple without a traditional Shiva Lingam. The toughest leg — a demanding 20 km trek from Sagar through alpine meadows.
Madhyamaheshwar – Navel of Shiva
At 3,497 m, Madhyamaheshwar is where Shiva’s navel (nabhi) manifested. Set in a tranquil valley with views of Chaukhamba peaks. Reachable via an 18 km trek from Ransi village.
Kalpeshwar – Hair of Shiva
At ~2,200 m, Kalpeshwar is where Shiva’s matted hair (jata) is worshipped. The only Panch Kedar temple open year-round. Just a 2 km walk from Urgam through oak and rhododendron forest.
