About The Yatra

India’s Most Sacred Himalayan Pilgrimage Circuit

The Char Dham Yatra of Uttarakhand comprises four sacred shrines — Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath, and Badrinath — collectively known as the Chota Char Dham. Unlike the larger Char Dham of India (Badrinath, Dwarka, Puri, and Rameshwaram), this Himalayan circuit is a compact yet deeply demanding pilgrimage, traditionally completed from west to east starting at Yamunotri and ending at Badrinath. Adi Shankaracharya is credited with establishing this sacred circuit in the 8th century to unify India’s spiritual heritage .

Each Dham represents a distinct aspect of the divine: Yamunotri honors Goddess Yamuna at the source of the Yamuna River; Gangotri honors Goddess Ganga at the origin of the Ganga; Kedarnath is one of the 12 Jyotirlingas and the abode of Lord Shiva; and Badrinath is the sacred seat of Lord Vishnu. Completing the Char Dham Yatra is believed to cleanse all sins and grant moksha — making it one of the most spiritually transformative journeys a devotee can undertake .

The Sacred Four

The Four Sacred Dhams of Uttarakhand

Explore the four divine abodes of the Garhwal Himalayas — each a unique manifestation of the divine.

🏔️

Gangotri – Second Dham

At 3,100 m, the origin of the Ganga River and shrine of Goddess Ganga. Unlike other Dhams, it is accessible by road. King Bhagirath is believed to have performed penance here to bring Ganga to earth .

🔱

Kedarnath – Third Dham

At 3,583 m, one of the 12 Jyotirlingas and the most powerful of the Char Dhams. A 16 km trek from Gaurikund leads to the ancient temple, believed to be established by the Pandavas and revived by Adi Shankaracharya .

🛕

Badrinath – Fourth Dham

At 3,133 m, the sacred abode of Lord Vishnu and the final destination of the yatra. One of the 108 Divya Desams, it houses the self-manifested Badri Vishal idol. Features the Tapt Kund hot springs and Neelkanth peak views .
